Chrysanthemum and Idioms

Hi Ya'll,
It has been a while since I blogged.  Thank goodness for my buddy Lisa otherwise our blog would never have anything new posted.  But she inspired me to take some pictures of my hallway display.  We finally got our Chrysanthemum response finished.  On the left of each student page is a letter that their parents wrote them to explain why they chose their name.  Some of them are very touching.  This is the first year that all of my students turned in a letter.  On the right of the page, the students wrote an acrostic poem with their names.  This year's class is amazing and did such a wonderful job.

In honor of Halloween I had my students think of all the idioms with the words dead, die or death.  As you can see they came up with some really good idioms.  We had a blast doing this activity (laughed a lot!)  We typed them up, illustrated them and made them into tombstones.  We will be hanging this up with our haunted house stories in the next few days.

I am loving this wreath my mom made for me. She is a breast cancer survivor and is currently dealing with lupus and chronic fatigue, yet she still finds time to do sweet things for us! I love this wreath and I love my mom=)

We made applesauce the last week of September. The kiddos had so much fun peeling, cutting, and mixing. Most of them loved the homemade version! This was my first time making it (many thanks to all of those inspiring teacher bloggers!)
Tina surprised me with this brownie points pan. She even made the brownies. I love it! (even if her class has more points than mine)

I love how our place value block came out. I changed it up a little from what I had read from other bloggers.
The students designed their houses, used their actual number address, placed them in order from least to greatest, and then split them up by odd and even numbers.

Here is what our First Day Jitters Writing looks like! I loved the display but it's coming down on Monday to make room for our Chrysanthemum display and our Haunted House stories.

Thanks for reading. Here's a freebie we have been doing for Word Work~ Vowel Word Sorts for Upper Grades! This one is the "i" vowel sort.

If you like the freebie, check out the whole set!

Head on over to Doodle Bugs to see all the link ups or link up and join the fun!
